Why Lavender Elixir?
Hi there,
I am Chloe Palmer - I am a busy single mother of an adorable 5yo boy, a sound healer, a musician and a passionate herbalist.
I was raised by a naturopath- so my whole life I have been working with and around medicinal plants. I got a degree in music performance and a diploma in wellness and relaxation massage- at the time I thought they were something to keep me occupied, but now they are a huge part of how I support myself and my son and how I give back to my community.
I often struggled with anxiety, worry, overwhelm and overthinking, so I looked to my naturopath brother (yup- he’s one- just like Dad) for some great herbs to help reduce the symptoms of my dis-regulated nervous system. I realised that most of my symptoms could be traced back to stress! I was recommended a tincture with a few herbs in it- one of which- was Lavender.
After working with Lavender for a while I decided that I would bring Lavender into my sound bathing events, offering people an opportunity to get deeper into relaxation with a warm ‘Lavender Latte’. Lavender is safe, well studied, and well known. It’s easy to identify and prolific in New Zealand. I wanted to offer people the opportunity to feel like herbalism wasn’t as far out of reach as they may have thought.
It was a hit, and for years this was how I ran my events, singing the praises of Lavandula Angustifolia- culinary Lavender. Then I thought to myself- “it needs to be MORE POTENT, I want it to be MEDICINAL!” I started to use some wonderful herbal products made by others, but the herbalist inside me was ready to be the one growing, tincturing and mixing up all the medicine.
So here I am! It really is silly how much joy it brings me to make this medicine for you all. It’s my passion, it brings me pride and it’s easy to wake up and create each day.
I chose Lavender because it is my favourite herb to bring relaxation, peace and regulation to my nervous system and I want you to fall in-love with it too.
In late 2023 I water-fasted with the addition of Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia) and in early 2024 I did a 2 week ‘plant diet’ of only simple foods and reduced stimulation while eating as much lavender as I could. This helped me really get to know what Lavender feels like in my body and to experientially learn what it does to a stressed out single mum and 31yo widow.
See- I lost my Husband to suicide out of the blue in 2022 and this has been my why since then. I want to help people feel less stressed, less overwhelmed, more present, less depressed, more relaxed, have less physical pain and more emotional balance. These symptoms are so manageable with healthy lifestyle, quality supplementation, healthy mindset and good daily routines.
With so many incredible benefits and a delicious taste and smell, Lavender is a wonder plant to bring into your daily routines to bring out the best in you.
Life brings so many opportunities to lose ourselves in stress and reactive behaviours, and so many of us are looking for something to help us become more resilient and calm in the face of distress, trauma and general busyness that this fast paced world can expect of us. We’re expected to be more productive, more robotic, less emotional, more sedentary and less present with the beautiful earth flourishing around us.
You deserve to feel healthy, calm, rested, clear and empowered.
Here is where Lavender comes in- with it's calming, cooling, peaceful energy. Lavender is very popular for getting rid of anxiety and depression as it boosts alpha and theta (relaxing) brain waves. I personally found that working with Lavender daily lead to me being more calm, more content, I was less rushed, less overwhelmed, less exhausted and less urgent-minded. I easily decided that instead of reacting- I had the choice to stay calm and respond with gathered thoughts and feelings. This lead to better outcomes and enhanced problem solving.
THIS is the magic of Lavender!

Medicinal Benefits & Physiological Response
Ingesting lavender triggers powerful calming responses in the body by interacting with the central nervous system:
Anxiety Reduction: Active compounds like linalool and linalyl acetate modulate GABA receptors, helping to quiet overactive neurons and lower nervous system excitability.
Lowering Stress Hormones: Consuming lavender tea can reduce cortisol levels by up to 22%, shifting the body from a "fight or flight" (sympathetic) state to a "rest and digest" (parasympathetic) state.
Blood Pressure & Heart Rate: The sedative effect helps stabilise mood and can lower blood pressure and heart rate during moments of stress.
Digestive Support: Traditionally used to ease digestive complaints such as bloating, nausea, cramps and intestinal gas due to its anti-inflammatory and carminative properties.
Natural Relief for Insomnia
Lavender is a renowned natural sleep aid because it improves the quality and duration of sleep. It helps with insomnia by:
Increasing Deep Sleep: Studies show lavender increases time spent in slow-wave (deep) sleep, which is critical for physical restoration and natural detoxification of the brain and organs after each day.
Regulating Melatonin: Research suggests lavender may help improve natural melatonin levels, signalling to your brain that it is time for rest.
Easing "Racing Mind": By calming the nervous system, it reduces the mental chatter and anxiety that often prevent us from falling asleep.
Ways to Use Lavender Buds
I love to use mine in:
Lavender lattes (recipe on the back of the pack)
Blueberry scones with raspberry jam and cream
Adding it sparingly to dry rubs for white meats such as chicken, fish or turkey
Making a simple syrup to add to mock-tails, it pares well with berries, stone fruit or citrus
Lavender lemon curd sponge cakes
Lavender and cacao bliss balls
Lavender and chamomile shortbread
Lavender and coconut pannacotta
Sprinkle onto cheese and bake or grill it- think camembert and brie
Lavender Lasagna alongside oregano and basil- it’s SO GOOD!
Onset of Action: Timing Your Calm
Understanding when the effects of lavender take hold allows you to time your rituals for maximum benefit.
Absorption & Bloodstream Entry: When ingested (such as in a tincture, tea or latte), lavender's active compounds—specifically linalool—are absorbed rapidly by the body. Research indicates that linalool can be detected in the bloodstream as quickly as 10–15 minutes after ingestion.
Peak Effectiveness: In humans, these calming compounds typically reach their maximum concentration in the blood approximately one hour after consumption. This makes it the ideal window for those seeking relief from anxiety or restlessness before bed.
Optimal Routine Timing: For the best results in treating insomnia or racing thoughts, it is recommended to enjoy your lavender infusion 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime. This gives the body enough time to shift into a parasympathetic state (rest and digest) and for the sedative effects to fully take hold.
Dual-Action Onset: One unique benefit of lavender tea is the "aromatic onset." Simply inhaling the steam while you sip can trigger immediate relaxation responses in the brain's limbic system within minutes, even before the tea is fully digested.
Cumulative Benefits: While the immediate physiological response happens within an hour, studies on oral lavender show that more significant, long-term improvements in sleep quality and anxiety reduction are often felt after two weeks of consistent daily use.
